EORTC-8D

A brief overview:

The EORTC QLQ-C30 is one of the most commonly used measures of health in cancer. The QLQ-C30 contains 30 questions covering the most common cancer symptoms (such as pain, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting) and various aspects of function (including physical, role, social, emotional, and cognitive functioning). The QLQ-C30 is summarized using 14 scales, each representing a particular symptom or aspect of function, plus one global quality of life scale (based on two global questions). These scores provide an excellent means for judging the effectiveness of health care interventions, but have only a limited application in economic evaluation because they are not based on preferences.

The EORTC-8D provides a means for using the EORTC QLQ-C30 in economic evaluation by estimating a condition-specific preference-based single index measure for health from these data using general population values. The EORTC-8D allows the analyst to obtain quality adjusted life years (QALYs) from the EORTC-QLQ-C30 for use in cost utility analysis.
